The San Benito Geologic Hazard Abatement District (GHAD) currently includes The Promontory at Ridgemark development in Hollister, California. The Promontory at Ridgemark development is located between Southside Road and South Ridgemark Drive.

The San Benito GHAD was formed in 2016 to serve residents within the above-mentioned development for geologic hazard abatement services. The Board of Directors for the San Benito GHAD are the members of the San Benito County Board of Supervisors. The San Benito GHAD Board of Directors accepted Plan of Control responsibilities within The Promontory at Ridgemark development in April 2026.

The San Benito GHAD is responsible for prevention, mitigation, abatement, and control of geologic hazards within the GHAD boundaries including mitigating or abating landslides and erosion hazards that could directly affect properties within the GHAD boundaries. In addition, the San Benito GHAD has responsibilities related to storm water facilities. The San Benito GHAD owns the majority of the open space surrounding The Promontory at Ridgemark development. As a landowner, the GHAD assumes responsibility for annual vegetation management for fire suppression.

Site improvements for which the San Benito GHAD provides monitoring and maintenance are listed in the Plan of Control, the guidance document for the San Benito GHAD. At this time, the San Benito GHAD is responsible for Plan of Control activities within The Promontory at Ridgemark development listed below:

  • Slopes
  • Concrete-lined drainage ditches
  • Water quality/detention basins
  • Debris benches
  • Storm drain system improvements
  • Subdrains and subdrain outlets

The San Benito GHAD is financed through the collection of supplemental tax assessments from homeowners within the GHAD’s boundary. Revenue is typically split between an ongoing operations/maintenance and the accumulation of a reserve for less frequent major repair items. The 2022 Engineer’s Report for The Promontory at Ridgemark development serves as the basis for the annual operating budget for the GHAD. Each year, an annual assessment and budget is considered and adopted by the San Benito GHAD Board of Directors.
